Actual price of iPhone 3G $524 / $624

According to Oppenheimer analyst Yair Reiner, AT&T is paying a subsidy of $325 for the new iPhone 3G. If this is accurate, the iPhone 3G could cost as much as $524 and $624 for the 8 and 16 gig versions respectfully when sold unsubsidized. It should be taken into consideration that the typical smartphone gets a subsidy of about $200.

Reiner also added that AT&T is paying Apple an extra $100 for subscribers signed up in Apple stores which brings the commission to a total of $425 for Apple. All in all, Apple is getting the same revenue for the 3G iPhone as it received for the 1st gen, only now all the payments are coming up front.
